I was given the chance to use my illustration skills as a Graphics Assistant for the Dean of Students Office. The Homecoming website and promotional material was using clip art for the King and Queen mascots, so I asked if I could create new characters to use on future marketing material.  I was granted permission to do so and created a cheerleader character as well. The most important thing in mind while creating these characters was to make sure they did a fair job of representing Wayne State's diverse population. I asked for feedback from both co-workers and student visitors alike to try and meet that goal as best as I could. I sketched the characters by hand with a pencil, then did everything else in Illustrator.  I wanted the designs to be clean and simple, but with enough visual detail so it was engaging to look at. The characters were used on the Homecoming website as well as printed and digital marketing leading up to the event.
